Jessica Yolanda Kaye is an Australian artist based in London. She is fascinated by people and the way they interact with others and themselves. Through a sequence of rigorous sketches, she seeks to capture complex & intimate everyday moments in a single line.
'I grew up around art. I would spend hours drawing and painting with my sisters and friends. Whether we were painting pears, copying Degas ballerinas or crafting elaborate birthday cards - time seemed to just fly by.'
'My mum instilled in me an appreciation of art from a very young age. We would go to exhibitions on the weekend and every so often we’d bring a piece home with us. By the time I was a teenager, our house was filled with art. I’m always inspired when I visit home.'
'Art is a space to be free. To experiment, explore, play. To have fun rather than perfect. I always loved art but I never imagined I would be an artist… I don’t think I even realised it was an option! It took me being miserable in a corporate job to realise that all I wanted to do was paint and that my childhood “hobby” was so much more than a hobby. It was a part of me.'
